The gran reserva Rioja Olartia, 100% tempranillo, comes from the vineyards that surround our winery in Rodezno (La Rioja Alta).
These vines are 40 years old on average, trellis-grown and picked by hand.
They come from a rigorous selection of overripe grapes which are fermented with their native yeasts, with half of the grapes destemmed and the other half entire. They are fermented in small quantities and do not need to be chilled, with daily punching down for 30 days.
This gran reserva rests in the barrel for 26 months: 50% in French oak and the other 50% in American oak from Pennsylvania.
Next, we put the whole batch into a vat, with maturing continuing in the bottle for another 38 months.
This is an unclarified wine, which is only filtered, using very coarse cellulose meshes, just before it is bottled. There may appear fine lees in the bottom of the bottle, which are evidence of its natural evolution.
This grand wine is designed to evolve harmoniously in the bottle for many years, although the finesse and elegance of its class can be appreciated from the beginning.
Enjoy it in good company and do not subject it to sharp changes in temperature.
Serving temperature 18°C
